Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) on July 21 launched the first car-carrying vessel named HL01 Victory Leader, which is capable of carrying 4,900 cars and built at Ha Long Shipbuilding Company, an affiliate of Vinashin. MOL to Launch Vietnam to US West Coast Service 19/05/2009
Japanese carrier Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) will offer a direct service from Vietnam to the US West Coast, the company has announced. The company will start its Pacific Southwest Express service from Cai Mep, South Vietnam, on 4 June 2009.

Vinalines Shipping in Vietnam receives ISM Certification from GL 27/02/2009
Vinalines Container Shipping Company (VCSC) received the Interim Document of Compliance required by the International Safety Management-Code (ISM-Code) from classification society Germanischer Lloyd (GL). The certificate documents that VCSC implements a Safety Management System (SMS) to comply with national and international required standards for the safe operation of ships and pollution prevention. Le Thanh Binh, GL`s Country Manager Vietnam, presented the Document of Compliance to VCSC executives at a ceremony in Hanoi.

Vietnam government gives shipbuilding big push 13/03/2008
Hanoi - Vietnam's shipbuilding industry, which recently became the world's fifth-largest, is on track to pass Germany's to become the fourth-largest by 2015, behind only South Korea, Japan and China, executives attending an industry trade fair in Hanoi said Thursday. "We were so moved and proud when we heard that Vietnam had become one of the top five," said Le Manh Truong, deputy director of Pha Rung Shipyard, a subsidiary of the state-owned shipbuilding group Vinashin. "Vinashin has written its name on the world shipbuilding map in the last ten years."

POSCO gets Vietnam nod 31/01/2008
Leading South Korean steel mill operator POSCO yesterday received approval to build Vietnam’s largest mill. Part of the mill will be built alongside with state-owned shipbuilder Vinashin (Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group) close to Van Phong port - port the authorities have constantly touted for its transhipment potential.

Vietnam works to gain market share in logistics services 09/11/2007
The Transport Ministry plans to develop sea ports and shipping facilities, push up the training of personnel and the IT application in order to develop logistics services, a new industry for domestic businesses. The ministry’s plan aims to correct the path that Vietnam has been leaving its logistics market vacated for foreigners.
